Last week we enjoyed a lively and entertaining presentation from our fellow
Rotarians, Phil and Joyce Ogden. It is always a pleasure to hear from our
‘Rotarians behind the Badge’, to learn about their experiences and understand their journey to joining Rotary.
This made me reflect on the fact that Rotary unites more than 1 million people
worldwide – to be more precise, it counts 1.2 million members and over
35,000 clubs! Service Above Self and One Profits Most Who Serves Best,
Rotary’s official mottoes, can be traced back to the early days of the organisation. The 1989 Council on Legislation established Service Above Self
as the principal motto of Rotary because it best conveys the philosophy of unselfish volunteer service. They Profit Most Who Serve Best was adopted in
2004 and later became, One Profits Most Who Serves Best, in 2010. It is amazing to think that so many people around the world, our fellow Rotarians,
share the same feeling of dedication to the good works of Rotary, wherever they are.
Yours in Rotary
