~~Hello Fellow Rotarians,
I would like to thank Rotarian Merilyn Briggs for her great presentation on our projects that we completed in Fiji. It was wonderful to revisit so many wonderful memories and happy times, this presentation also gave our Rotarians who did not go to Fiji more of an understanding of what we achieved as a club because without everyone’s help this project would not have happened.
Thank you Rotarian Sonia Morganti and your committee for putting together a great social day on Sunday. We all enjoyed the weather, food, wine and each other’s company and it was also a chance for those Rotarians who have a special car to take it out for a spin.
Monday night I had the pleasure of attending a rotary meeting with Rotary West Launceston. President Liz Crampton was a great hostess and the guest speaker for the evening was a young lady Dr Jacinta Simmons. Dr Jacinta is a local girl who is a research scientist at the Brisbane University Hospital. The research is on skin cancers and what they react to and how to treat them, it was a very informative session. I also met visiting Rotarians from Hilo, Hawaii D500. Rotarian Charlene Meyers is very involved with Polio and also gave a small presentation and what her district is doing to help Rotary end Polio. Did you know that there are only 12 reported cases of polio this year? Whilst this is fantastic the magic number is zero.
This Saturday our club will be shaking the tin to raise money for Lift the Lid and raise awareness of mental Health. We will be at Bunnings North Launceston from 10am to 4pm and I will be asking for help. 1 hour is all that is required and we will be out of the weather.
I also mentioned at last weeks meeting that we think about entering a team for the Soggy Bottom cardboard box regatta. This event is being run by Rotary Youngtown. This is a great fun day which I will be encouraging our club to participate in.
This club is still on the lookout for a newsletter editor, if you think this role is for you please contact Rotarian Dennis Tulk. The job starts in July 2018.
Thought for the week.
Life is only as good as the people you get to share it with.
