Thank you to all Rotarians that came to our first meeting for 2017.
Our first guest speaker Sue Dyson held our attention as she spoke about Zonta and the Birthing kits that this
group assemble to send overseas.
This Thursday is Australia day and a reminder that there is no meeting. Enjoy your day as we celebrate what it
to be Australian. We are a lucky country.
Next Thursday night we will be hearing Martin George educate us about outer space, Mars, Pluto and beyond. I
am positive that our club will have lots of questions for Martin.
We are fast approaching the District conference which is being held in Smithton starting March 31st to April

I have booked 2 houses in Stanley and from memory each house sleeps 4 to 6 people, first in best dressed or
bring a blow up bed to camp on the floor.
We should be in for a great weekend and it is always a great time for catching up with other Rotarians from
around the state and hearing about their club and what projects they are involved in. There will also be some
interesting guest speakers.
I did mention at our last meeting that the board is considering sponsoring a young person to attend RYLA. The
committee for RYLA are asking clubs to submit expressions of interest. If any Rotarian knows of anyone they
think would benefit from this please speak to me or a Board member. The date is set for 7th May to 13th May at
The Rotary club of Youngtown are gearing up for their "Soggy Bottom" cardboard box boat race to be held on
Sunday 5th March. As a large club it would be wonderful if we could support Youngtown in some way. I will be
contacting President Leigh Dyson shortly to offer some assistance. I think this is going to be a wonderful event
