Climbing Cradle Mountain

Thursday, 26 Oct 2017

~The Mountain climbers were:
Lance Pfeffer, Lachlan Schneider, Inaki Sanchez, Shannon Evans, Bjork Hanson and Henk kortekaas.
The climb was organised by Lance and Henk for a clear and sunny Saturday in October. This really was the case
when we left Launceston at 7 am on Saturday, October 21st. During the trip on the very winding road to the
Cethana Dam, Inaki got car sick and after changing seats the remainder of the trip had to be a little slower to
prevent Inaki's stomach contents ending up in Thea's car. The weather changed more and more, the closer we
came to Cradle Mountain. A slight drizzle did not deter the climbers and with great determination we started
conquering Marions Lookout. Admiring the view from there as much as we could, regained our strength and
slogged-on towards Cradle Mountain. The amount of snow was fascinating and a "snowball war" could not be
prevented by the leaders of the Pack. Eventually we arrived at Kitchen Hutt for a short lunch break under a
musical background produced by Inaki on his ukulele. However, the weather was not kind to us and there was
not enough time left for the six-hour climb to the top and back. Alas, subdued we had to return back to the car
park in order to be back in Launceston at 6 pm. Stiff and sore but happy with this great achievement.
We have to do this again when the sun is with us all the way.
